Entrusted by Wuhan Branch of China Classification Society, Hubei Branch undertook the compilation project of LNG alternative fuel greenhouse gas emission reduction methodology for long-term cargo transportation. The project was started in early September this year. After policy research, actual research and text writing, the compilation of "LNG Fuel Substitution for Inland River Cargo Ships" was completed in early December.

On December 17, under the leadership of China Classification Society Wuhan Branch, a project acceptance expert review meeting was held. The meeting invited many authoritative experts from the transportation industry, carbon trading, carbon emission accounting and scientific research institutions to participate in the review. After listening to the report of the project team, reviewing relevant materials and conducting in-depth inquiries and discussions, the participating experts highly recognized the methodology. Experts agree that the methodology strictly follows the national "double carbon" strategic goal and the industrys green development policy, and conforms to the current laws and regulations and the regulations of the competent department. Its overall structure design is reasonable, clear in logic, comprehensive and detailed in content, covering the actual scene of LNG fuel application in inland waterways. The submitted data are complete and standardized. The emission reduction accounting algorithm is scientific and reliable, the data source is traceable, and the uncertainty is well controlled, overall compliance with project review and acceptance requirements.

The successful compilation and publication of this methodology has effectively filled the gap in the greenhouse gas emission reduction accounting system of LNG alternative fuels in the field of transportation in China, especially in the scope of inland waterways. It will provide solid technical support for shipping companies to participate in carbon emissions trading and achieve low-carbon transformation and development.
