On March 22, 2024, a series of training on green and low-carbon transformation capacity building of Jiangsu steel industry organized by Jiangsu Provincial Department of ecological environment was successfully held in Nantong. China Classification Society Quality Certification Co., Ltd. (CCSC), as the undertaking unit of Jiangsu Provinces quality certification innovation pilot demonstration project "Research on Carbon Footprint Identification and CBAM Mechanism Information Disclosure of Iron and Steel Industry Chain", was invited to give lectures for this training.
CCSC teaching experts focused on the development status and prospects of the carbon footprint of the steel industry, introduced the current domestic and foreign product carbon footprint identification certification related policy direction and work progress, as well as the key points and difficulties of the carbon footprint quantification of steel products, and put forward countermeasures and suggestions for the challenges faced by Jiangsu Province in carrying out the carbon footprint identification certification of steel products.
Product carbon footprint belongs to a kind of carbon emission accounting, which usually refers to the whole life cycle carbon emissions of products from raw material processing, transportation, production to factory sales, and is an important indicator to measure the green and low-carbon level of production enterprises and products. In recent years, the international gradually established key product carbon footprint accounting, evaluation and certification system, more and more multinational companies will product carbon footprint into the sustainable supply chain management requirements, green barriers gradually formed. In December 2023, the National Development and Reform Commission and other five ministries and commissions jointly issued the "Opinions on Accelerating the Establishment of Product Carbon Footprint Management System", and product carbon footprint work has become an important part of my countrys "double carbon" task.As a major steel province with a production capacity of more than 0.1 billion tons, Jiangsu Province actively responds to the guidance of national policies and takes the lead in exploring product carbon label certification in steel and other industries. This is an important measure to implement the national "double carbon" strategy, promote the green transformation of the industry and enhance the competitiveness of products.As one of the earliest third-party certification institutions in China to set foot in the field of green and low-carbon, CCSC has always taken the promotion of Chinas green and low-carbon development as its own responsibility, constantly exerting its own technical advantages, based on the cause of green emission reduction, and actively carrying out carbon footprint identification certification to help achieve the goal of carbon neutrality.
